Independent, paid by you. That's the whole business.
Every fixed-rate plan we can price in your area, ranked within each contract length on your own twelve months of usage.
Who we are
We're a small team in Texas that builds one thing: software that reads each plan's Electricity Facts Label and prices the ones it can on your usage. We check its work against each provider's own numbers before anything reaches you.

Evan Wakefield
Evan Wakefield, an electrical engineer, started watt marshal in 2026. He wanted a straight answer to a simple question: which plan costs this house the least?
Why we exist
Every electricity plan sold in Texas has an Electricity Facts Label: one page, required by the state, setting out what the plan charges. It's the binding document. Whatever a website says, the label is what you agree to.
It's also hard to read. The price at the top is an average at fixed usage levels that probably don't match yours. What decides your bill is further down: a credit that pays only above a usage line, a rate that changes at a threshold, a fixed monthly charge that weighs more in a mild month, a discount that assumes autopay. Two labels can look alike at the top and end up hundreds of dollars apart over a year.
So finding the plan that costs your home the least isn't a judgment call. It's reading every label offered where you live and applying each one to your twelve months, month by month. That's where the differences show; a yearly average hides them. It's a lot of arithmetic, so we built software to do it.
How we make money
watt marshal does not accept referral or placement payments from retail electricity providers. You pay a one-time fee for the report, and that's our only income. Comparison sites are usually free because a provider pays them when you sign up, or for a higher placement. We're independent, so the only thing that decides our ranking is what each plan would cost your home.
How we work
Every figure in a report traces to a document: the plan's Electricity Facts Label and the utility's filed tariff, with the date we read them. We price each plan on your monthly usage and check the result against the provider's own published table. A plan whose result we can't reconcile with that table is set aside. If we can't pin down a plan's cost, we leave it out and say so. Your report shows where every figure came from.
