TNMP electricity plans, priced on your own usage.

Texas-New Mexico Power (TNMP) runs the wires in smaller areas south of Houston, in north Texas, and in far west Texas. watt marshal ranks every fixed-rate plan we can price here, within each contract length, on your twelve months of usage, with TNMP's delivery charges included.

The wires company, not your provider

TNMP is the delivery utility. On a plan's label it is called the TDU (Transmission and Distribution Utility) or TDSP. It owns the poles, wires and meters, reads your meter, and restores power after an outage. It doesn't sell you electricity: a retail provider does, and you choose which one. Whichever provider you pick, TNMP still delivers your power, and the delivery charges it bills don't depend on that choice.

Where delivery charges show up

Every plan sold in this area includes TNMP's delivery charges. Most Electricity Facts Labels list them on their own lines, apart from the provider's energy charge. They pass through at the amounts TNMP bills: a per-kWh charge and, for most utilities, a fixed monthly charge. A few plans fold them into a single price instead.

On your monthly bill they usually appear as delivery or TDU charges, sometimes under TNMP's name.

Who sets them

TNMP's delivery charges are set in its tariff, the rate schedule approved by the PUCT, the state's utility regulator. When the utility refiles part of its tariff, the delivery charges change for every plan in the area that passes them through, sometimes after a plan's label was printed.

When we price a plan that passes these charges through, we use the ones in TNMP's filed tariff. Read it yourself: TNMP's rates page, which links the current retail tariff.

Why we add them before ranking

Delivery charges are the same whichever provider you pick, so they don't change how two plans that pass them through compare. They do change what each plan costs you, and they're what lets a plan that folds delivery into one price sit fairly beside the rest. A fixed monthly charge, where the utility has one, is also a bigger share of a small month's bill than a large one's, which a single advertised price, set at one usage level, hides.

We add TNMP's charges to every plan that passes them through, month by month, on your usage, before ranking.
